Christmas South, Part IV

Nina and Daddy wave at the camera! Hi everybody! See this image larger.

*I love my Daddy!* (At least that’s part of what I remember feeling during this picture… I also remember her filling her diaper. Oh well, either way I’m there to support her, right?) See this image larger.

Grandma Sue arrived to share in the Christmas fun! See this image larger.

*SQWEEEEE!* See this image larger.

*What? I’m cute, I can’t apologize for that, can I?* See this image larger.

The ice cream ball. Ben and Mel got it for Christmas – you add the stuff and roll it around. It was pretty awesome, so we got one just like it. Except ours isn’t a ball. And it is electric. Makes ice cream, though! See this image larger.

Look she barely had time to make a cute face, and she’s STILL cute! See this image larger.

Just like me. Not. See this image larger.

*Hi, is it my birthday yet?* See this image larger.

Nope, not yet Nina! Next entry it is all about Nina turning one! Update happening soon!

Christmas South, Part III

I’m guessing it isn’t too hard to imagine that Christmas for four kids is a little complicated. And just look at the pile this year! See this image larger.

Big enough it didn’t fit in one pic! See this image larger.

Don’t ever ask a girl born on Christmas to show you a little Christmas cheer, it turns out that there is one! *Gooooooooo Christmas!!!* See this image larger.

I love this moment on Christmas morning… it is the sudden realization that this surprise is something you get to play with for as long as you like. See this image larger.

That moment sometimes lasts awhile! See this image larger.

I got some awesome candy mix in a snow-man container, this is what the container looked like with stuff in it. It didn’t stay like that for long. See this image larger.

Nina attempts to open this package with her mind. As this is impossible, most kids hand their packages to Daddy (or Uncle D.) See this image larger.

This is a great picture too, but I can’t tell if it is cute, or if this is the last tweet that little red bird ever made… See this image larger.

Kaylee clapped her hands so lightly as she waited patiently for these shoes to be fully unpackaged. She was like a delighted princess! See this image larger.

Well, that doll’s head is going to be warm, at least! See this image larger.

Melissa holds up a cute ornament of the four of us together! See this image larger.

Nina borrows Kaylee’s stroller for a brief roll. She’s fairly happy here. he he! See this image larger.

*A new dolly! Ho ho!* See this image larger.

*A monkey doll! Ha Haaaa!* See this image larger.

*A boat! BWAH HAHA HAAAAAAAAA! A BOAT!!!* See this image larger.

Quick, take the picture!!! See this image larger.

The kids are off on another adventure… See this image larger.

More of Christmas Day coming up soon…

Christmas South, Part II

Long entry this time, folks, I gotta catch us up to present in a hurry! (My computer is “fixed,” but that doesn’t mean what it should mean, sadly… new mother-board, new video card and a slew of new problems all for free! Special thanks to my recent back-up for saving my buns.)

It was the day before Christmas and all through lair, two kiddos watched Dora on a DVD player. See this image larger.

Connor again treats Nina to a tour of the facilities. This is where the presents are going to go! See this image larger.

The kids piled in to go check out the bocci courts! (Nina stayed home on this occasion, thanks for watching her, Grandma Barb!) See this image larger.

Looks like a J.Crew ad or something. (Do they still have J.Crew? I think I might be getting old.) Speaking of which, doesn’t he look old here? See this image larger.

Ian’s favorite activity is still to run like the wind. See this image larger.

Does this picture look familiar? (12/24/10)
We took a similar shot in the same spot two years ago, here they are right next to each other. (12/23/08) Also you can click here to see this image larger.

*Sorry about your windshield!* See this image larger.

I asked for a cheesy smile and I got it! See this image larger.

Extra cheese! See this image larger.

A nearby fountain served as an excellent backdrop for a bunch of pictures… See this image larger.

*Mom look, Kaylee’s going in!* See this image larger.

Tooth-fest, 2011! See this image larger.

Connor attempts to slam-dunk a penny into the fountain. Many wishes were made that day. And a few were lost in the nearby shrubbery. See this image larger.

The Village’s Police showed up just then to ask us to stop polluting their fountain with our pocket change. We made a run for it. 😉 (I’m kidding.) See this image larger.

On the way home… See this image larger.

Ian’s face is cute in both this shot and the next one, but you might have to click to see larger… I liked the sense of scale so I didn’t crop in. See this image larger.

Pictures like this on the internet usually have the caption “Haters gonna hate.” It basically means, take it all in stride, folks. See this image larger.

Nina enjoys some Grandma time, one-on-one. What’s the most she missed out on, a golf-cart ride? See this image larger.

*Oh Grandma, you think of everything!!! :)* See this image larger.

Eventually everybody was reunited and ready for dinner before settling in for a good Christmas Eve’s sleep… See this image larger.

Dinner Nina, no snacks!! Dinner! See this image larger.

Christmas South, Part I

And so we begin our journey south. Airline tickets were a joke this year, and frankly we just wanted to try driving to see how it would be. It turned out not to be too bad at all. The first thing we did was drive over to Grampa Dave and Grandma Marcia’s. They let us stay the night (21st) there before continuing on our journey, which worked great. We were able to hop right onto 75 and cruise on down to Ohio.

First stop on the 22nd, Arby’s in Man-o-War, Kentucky. Ian got a cool glider. See this image larger.

Hi Arby’s. See this image larger.

We hit a pretty nasty traffic jam just as we crossed the Tennessee border, stopped for like an hour and a half hardly moving at all. Ian had to go potty too eventually, but we were so far up in the mountains we couldn’t stop until after the traffic jam. He held out nicely. We drove to just south of Atlanta’s airport and stopped at a great hotel. See this image larger.

I’ve never seen Ian happier to find a bed than that night. See this image larger.

The morning of the 23rd we headed further south, and the journey got worse. Cars used the left lane for normal traffic and people that had someplace to go had to move into the far right entrance/exit ramp in order to pass. The road was very straight and very boring as we crossed into Florida. Finally, we got to the Villages in the late afternoon.

Connor enjoyed an ice cream. See this image larger.

Nina says hello to Grampa. See this image larger.

*I smite you, Wise-person!!! PEW PEW!!!* (It took a little while for Nina to realize that the Nativity set was not made up of action figures.) See this image larger.

Nina beats Grandma Barb in the crawling section of the tri-atholon. See this image larger.

Kaylee dances around, care-free and happy… Christmas is coming! More soon! See this image larger.

Christmas North, Finale

The movie “Cars” has a sort of sequel that came out on DVD only… this is a set that lets you launch a car through a loop and off a ramp… He couldn’t see what it was at first… See this image larger.

Now he gets it. It was around here that he said something like “Hey guys, look! It’s the WHOLE SET!” I have no idea why he would say this, but we all cracked up. See this image larger.

Daddy tries to help put it together… See this image larger.

Another winner! He loves it! See this image larger.

Mommy took this awesome shot while I was busy downstairs stealing all of Grampa Dave’s photos off of his camera. See this image larger.

After a very satisfying day, Mommy and Nina take a rest! See this image larger.

Anything can be a “super ian” mask or cape. 😉 See this image larger.

An awesome time was had by all, thanks to Grandma Marcia and Grampa Dave for a great visit, and their generosity and hospitality! (I know, we hosted, but Marcia brings stuff, bless her!) This was pretty much a perfect Christmas North… we had big fluffy snowflakes falling outside, the tree parked right in the corner of our living room, Ian was a very courteous, well-behaved little boy, and Nina started feeling better toward the end of the day. (I should have figured out how to light the fireplace? Maybe next year. 😉 )

And so now I turn my attention to Christmas South. It is going to be a little bit before I actually get all this stuff organized for the blog. Guess how many pictures I’ve got for the trip in total? Did you guess 1,181? If so, you’re exactly right… I’ll try to make it happen fast, wish me luck! Here’s a few bonus photos (these from the 19th) to buy me a little time…

It is always awesome to me when Ian and Nina can play together at all. It just seems sort of natural that it won’t last more than a second without some kind of explosion, but sometimes these two get along for 10-15 minutes… for their ages, I’m pleased as punch with that. See this image larger.

Oatmeal, she wears it well! See this image larger.

Christmas North, Part III

Grampa Dave smiles while comforting the little one! See this image larger.

She’s got the whole world in her hands! See this image larger.

Another new book for Ian! See this image larger.

A cool activity cube! Nina received many more presents than this, but she wasn’t big on opening because she was so sick. See this image larger.

Little Einstein’s cup! See this image larger.

Another nice shot from Grampa Dave shows some of the casualties of Christmas morning… Private Christmas Wrap, we hardly knew ye! Captain Orange Astronaut, that one small step for man must have been more like a giant leap! See this image larger.

Mommy fawns over an awesome little denim coat for Nina! That’s going to look so cute! See this image larger.

And now, back to Christmas, with, appropriately enough, Grampa Dave and Grandma Marcia!

December 18th, and we had an early visit from Santa, as well as Grampa Dave and Grandma Marcia! And Nina had a visit from something that made her not feel very good. She was throwing up that morning.

Video
Click here to watch a video of the Ian finding presents under the tree! We DID get a visit from Santa!!! If you listen carefully you can hear Ian asking Mommy to hold the handrail on the way down the stairs, he says “Who lefted those?” and “Who gave us those?” (He was pretty sure that Grampa Dave and Grandma Marcia dropped off those presents, but we explained that they hadn’t quite arrived yet! Shortly thereafter they pulled up to the house, but I want to mention that Ian was a VERY good boy and patiently waited. He may have been busy eating cinnamon buns though, not sure!)

It was time to open presents, and Ian was excited and happy to tear into things! See this image larger.

Some cool band-aids! See this image larger.

A cool mini snow globe that glowed many different colors! It even said “I-A-N” on it! He ran that puppy out of batteries in one day! See this image larger.

Grandma Marcia shows Ian a big new book! See this image larger.

Bristle Blox were a big hit, and Ian began engineering some fun stuff right out of the package! See this image larger.

I may have mentioned Nina wasn’t feeling well, poor little girl! *Ungh, I said ‘no pictures,’ Daddy.* See this image larger.

More soon!

Hospital Week, Epilogue

Finally through the week, and ready to start celebrating Christmas, right after this entry…

December 16th, Ian’s Christmas party. He got “Where the Wild Things Are” and that’s about all there is to tell about that. See this image larger.

Bye everybody! See this image larger.

Presently, in 2011

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that presently Nina and Ian are a little sick but getting over it, we think. It was barf-o-rama over here for a few nights, though.

Nina had her 12 month “well visit” at the doctor (curiously just before she got sick) and was deemed a healthy little girl. We’re keeping an eye on her weight, which is just a tiny bit under where we’d like it — and also on her neck muscles. She got 5 pokies and cried right out of the gate this time.

On Sunday Ian and I went outside to take down the Christmas lights, and I dragged him around the house on a sled. We had a lot of fun, and Ian was a good helper.

One of the funny things that happened after we got back from Florida is that I realized I had a full 16 GB card on my camera — and I couldn’t easily fit that on my computer, which already has 22,000 pictures of the kids on it. (You think I’m exaggerating, but I’m not.) Looking into some options there, but the Florida trip may be slightly delayed in terms of appearance on the blog while I figure out what needs to come off my drive.
