Beautiful Day, Part II

Here’s some additional pictures of the various happenings around the time of Ian’s Baptism.

Apologies about the wait on these, everybody… it has been a hectic couple of weeks, and it doesn’t look like things are going to slow down until around the middle of July.

Grandma Marcia and her mom Ada check out Ian’s stylish hairdo. See this image larger.

Grandma Sue and I danced to “What a Wonderful World” at my wedding… Ian’s currently winking and smiling at the girl who happened to sing it during Sunday’s service. See this image larger.

Grandpa Dave smiles at the peaceful sleeper. Ian dreams about a blue fish. See this image larger.

Great Grandma Betty wouldn’t stop making “bunny ears” behind Ian’s head for this shot, so Mama had to intervene. (I’m kidding.) See this image larger.

Ian – “Hors d’oeuvres!!” See this image larger.

Chapmen. See this image larger.

Kaylee is the happiest baby I’ve ever seen. If she’s not smiling, she’s getting ready to! See this image larger.

Papa’s favorite face… more like this please! See this image larger.

Ian – “Help?” See this image larger.

Ian – “No seriously, help!” You can tell Ian’s got quite a bit of Chapman in him when you see Chris holding him. See this image larger.

They look pretty alike from here too! See this image larger.

Connor drops by for quick grin… See this image larger.

Kaylee, such a beautiful little one! And see look, here comes another smile! See this image larger.

Beautiful Day, Part I

We’d like to start by thanking everybody regarding Ian’s Baptism. Let me say we had a whole lot of miracle workers that day. We had people who flew and drove across the country, some acted as photographers, and others as caterers; all braved Michigan summer construction and a million other headaches! Everybody was extremely generous and we thank you for your gifts and being here for the awesome day!

Thanks to the number of photographers we had on hand, we have so many very great pics to share that I’m going to try to tell the story through said images and captions… also we have enough that I think it makes sense to leave these up for a day or two, and then follow up with some that were a little more spontaneous. Watch for another blog entry shortly with a lot more pics!

The star of the show arrives, but shies from cameras initially. See this image larger.

He handled this like a champ. Even when the Pastor’s wet hand touched Ian’s head, he was quiet and calm. Perhaps he was worried that the organ was going to play. See this image larger.

Afterwards, Ian and Mama chill out with Aunt Melanie, and cool cousins Connor and Kaylee! See this image larger.

Wondering about the attire? Ian’s Christening gown has been in the Chapman side of the family for four generations, all pictured here! Great Grandma Betty pointed out to us that meeting Ian was well worth the trip! See this image larger.

Uncle Chris and Grandma Sue and I share a happy smile. You’ll note that Ian is pointing at the one of many cameras we should be smiling at. See this image larger.

Grandpa Dave and Grandma Marcia are pleased as punch with the little guy. See this image larger.

Finally tuckered out after one too many photo ops? Nah, this is right after we came back from the church… but believe me he was tired by the end of the day. See this image larger.

A message that sums up the day very well. Thanks again to all of you. See this image larger.

Daycare?!?

“I have to go where?!?”

Yes, Ian is officially going to daycare, as much as it breaks Melissa and I’s collective heart. He’s doing great with it so far (half days this week and last…) other than one little problem; he doesn’t like taking the bottle suddenly. Not so good when that’s all he’s got to eat. Time to start him on Lunchables I guess 😉 See this image larger.

V. I. P.

Can you believe it? Even George and Laura Bush recognize the importance of Ian’s appearance in the world. I should probably point out that Ian’s diapers do not classify as weapons of mass destruction.

If you’re Ian’s Great Grandma, Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Aunt, or Cousin, keep an eye out for something interesting showing up via UPS in the near future. 😀 Here’s a pic! Be sure to read the insert when you get yours! (HINT – It does NOT go in a CD player.)

Finally, because we’ve had no images of Ian in here for at least two whole pictures now… l give you the one that will be forever near and dear to my heart! Melissa pulled this shot off in one heartbeat of a shutter click. Ian’s shy these days, so he’ll smile in delight when you grin at him, but immediately hide his face. How she managed to get this shot with our old camera, with him flailing around and hiding, I’ll never know! Brilliant work, Sweetie! Two of the happiest boys on the planet, right there. See this image larger.

90 Day Satisfaction Guarantee

Can you believe Ian is already three months old? I think we’ll keep him! The last many weeks have been spent mostly trying to catch up on work, so we have a lot of time to catch up on here at Ian’s blog. What better way than through pictures? Not all of the pictures here are high resolution, so only some of these have a “print version.”

Grandma Sue agrees that Ian is growing like a weed. She says that his mini-smiles helped her strength before and after the surgery, but it may also have been from picking up and putting down that big ol’ baby.

A nice image snapped by Grandma Sue during her stay…

Days later Grandma Marcia and Grandpa Dave made the trip to Grand Rapids for Easter, where Grandma Marcia kindly made an excellent meal. Like at every holiday function, Ian hit the bottle pretty hard. (print version)

Grandpa Dave risks his clean shirt in exchange for a belch during the Easter trip. (print version)

Grandpa Dave snapped this picture, and it came out great. What do you think bunny? “Murmfh.” (print version)

“Mama, I need more props, please!” I love how Ian’s mouth exactly mirrors Mama’s in this one. (print version)

Grandma Marcia pulled off this great shot of me (Papa) feeding him. (print version)

Right around that same date we took some new shots so that we could hang a few pictures in the bathroom. I used the regular flash on this image, which I hated doing, but look at the results! One of Ian’s mini-smiles! (print version)

This is the face of a boy who just made the bathwater a little bit warmer… (print version)

Not all of Ian’s fans know that he’s into “the Metal,” but word is getting out now. (print version)

He’s grasping and holding on to things these days. He looks like he’s riding the subway, doesn’t he? A very scary subway! (print version)

He isn’t slipping here, he woke up in the fetal position and stayed that way… had to get a quick shot of that! (print version)

Mr. Brandon (Papa’s close buddy) loaned his nice flash to me for a few images. I was able to bounce the light off of the ceiling for these shots, which started out like this… (print version)

…quickly led to shots like this… “Ello, Gov’nah, top o’ the mornin to ya.” (print version)

And when I finally got the flash angled properly so that it wasn’t blasting in his poor little eyeballs; I got these two. Needless to say Papa needs to start using that kind of flash… (print version)

Funny story about this chair, we bought it for the cat years ago and he pretty much rejected it; however within a few hours of this picture being taken Seth decided that he missed it and jealously reclaimed it by sleeping in it for a bit. (print version)

Baptism Date Confirmed

On May 20th, Ian will be baptized here in Rockford, Michigan. That’s 6 weeks or so away… looking forward to seeing anybody that would like to show, but please be advised; this is not a huge ceremony. Methodists don’t have the “sponsors” step up to the altar, or to my knowledge, even have them stand up.

Grandma Sue is Recovering Part II

Granny Sue had some complications to her aforementioned surgery, however she has since re-recovered and is making her way towards “well” as we speak!

Hellooooooo

Alright, so this is truly only for those of you whom are very brave. To watch the video (linked below) you should probably have the following:

1. A high speed connection.

2. Patience after the download for the video to fully load. It’ll take a solid couple of minutes.

3. Patience for about 7 minutes of me saying the same word over and over.

I tried saying one simple word repeatedly, with varied pitch, and in various speeds. The word I chose was “hello.” If I sound kind of British, it is because I’m imitating a kid’s show that is made in the UK. What you don’t hear is the number of times I repeated this to him syllable by syllable the previous night. Do you think I get Ian to say the magic word at just 8 weeks old? Click here to find out!

Grandma Sue is Recovering

Grandma Sue sends her thanks to all of you who wished her well and good luck on her surgery. She’s in recovery at the moment, and immediately said she felt “normal.” The relief on her face told me that she hadn’t felt that way in awhile, and that normal can be a really good thing!

Happy Belated St. Patrick’s Day

Went to the doctor today and we have a few updates. The first is that Ian is still healthy and has slipped to the 75th percentile in both height (24.25″) and weight. (13lbs and 1oz) The only other real update was that I have to say that it is very sad to watch your baby get his first shots. It’s enough to get you upset at the world for him having to go through this, after all, what’s he done to it, so far aside from make some poopy diapers?

Here’s some St. Patty’s day pics:

Hold still please for a photo… (print version)

Be nice to the dino, and calm down. (print version)

Ok good, now look at the camera please… (print version)

Great, nice! (print version)

Now wave g’bye to your fans, please, Ian! (print version)

Hilariously awesome video coming soon!
