Crossed swords was one of the motifs used indicating that PvP mode had begun, which is great in theory – but it was also being used for many other things. We settled eventually on the above solution.
TOP: Non-faction “generic” influence icon. Competitive analysis, icon cross-interaction analysis, and finally playing around and sketching resulted in a sort of homage to an illumanti eyeball crossed with a plus-sign.
BOTTOM: Players were simply not seeing quest markers at extreme vertical angles. A simple above/below arrow was the second-best call – we already display distance. The best call was to add more quest markers.
Seasons 3 and 4
TOP: A slew of hand-crafted POI icons for Seasons 3 and 4.
BOTTOM: One expedition icon takes on many forms for New World – from achievements, to compass/HUD, and Leaderboard achievement capes.
TOP: Season 4 introduced artifacts, and material requirements in order to forge them. To the left is a shard of Gleamite, and four round shapes are each a matrix for a different style of forging… the left is generic, then one for armor, jewelry, and weaponry.
BOTTOM: Rise of the Angry Earth introduced mounts – and so “riding” became an additional tradeskill to track.
Events
Mythril was introduced as a new metal for jewelry, and some needed to be “socketable” with a gem. A few of these armor items and weapons were light-emissive – a sort of practice run before the candles of Nightveil Hallow…
