Part of the draw of a leaderboard feature is the satisfying “plink” of receiving an achievement.
TOP: A colleague and I created a system and template, allowing for immediate production of an array of achievements indicating the completion of various feats.
BOTTOM: Achievements just for the Greatsword. An analysis of achievements of earlier weapons led to the finished icons.
New World’s Journal is one part quest tracker, one part tutorial, and also one part lore. I was humbled when a colleague and I were singled out to contribute to the latter’s illustrations.
Seasons 1 and 2
Each Season in New World means the generation of a slew of assets; this image features assets (from Seasons 1 and 2) that are in some part generated in-engine – but often require an artistic eye to manipulate pose/lighting/camera angle, etc.
Icons from scratch/image manipulation.
TOP: Hatchery – the Hatchery villain’s face is used for both the point of interest icon on the map, and a variant look was used on the Seasonal Trial screen.
Tent – less is more!
BOTTOM: These are mostly from images. Stock image of photosynthesis manipulated into blob… add some bumps, some specular highlights, and depth… and we have verdant essence.
Events are somewhat like miniature Seasons – sometimes based on a holiday or an in-game celebration. These are for Winter Convergency and Springtide Bloom.

Sometimes the challenge is fitting everything within the format. The black rectangle shows an example of the format.
