Twice Bitten, Once Shy

We got two incident reports today from daycare. The first was at 10:05am…

Ian was playing with the lawnmower [presumedly a toy] and another child wanted his toy. The other child got upset and bit Ian on his left arm.

The second was at 11:00am…

Another child was pushing him out of the way and Ian didn’t want to move. So the child bit him on his left wrist.

I notice we don’t get the name or gender of the other child. I’m wondering what his/her incident report says. I’m guessing something along the lines of “Your child bit another child twice, deserved kick in shin, received.”

Note the difference between an incident report and a daily report. Incident reports are for when Ian has an accident or hurts himself in some way. Daily reports are a simple update on how his day went. I think in the future I’ll be typing in his daily reports here on the blog; they’re probably good to keep track of in a database like this one anyway.

Today’s Daily Report — “Ian had a great day… …He is doing a lot better interacting with the other children.” (This is the day he got bit, lol)

In other news:
• Ian woke up the other morning, held his arms up for Mama to pick him up, plucked the zooey (pacifier) out of his mouth, and handed it to her. (As in: “Done with this for now, thanks.”)

• When I picked Ian up from daycare yesterday, I sat him down on the floor of the car. I showed him how he could climb up to the seat of the car, and then his infant car seat as a series of steps. I mean sure, he’d made it from the car’s rear seat up onto his infant car seat previously, but to make it in a couple steps, that’d be impressive, right? Well he skipped the middle-step and clambered up from the car floor into the infant car seat!

Dance!

Some random updates for you:

• Ladies and gentlemen, video footage of Ian dancing!!! Click here to see very short video!

New Feature! On the right in the “sidebar” of the page where you’re reading this, there’s a new section called “Twitter/Live.” It should be somewhat up-to-date with the latest and greatest news if we’re on the road. Believe it or not, I can make an update to that area of the site with my mobile phone! So I just type it in, send away, and (boom) there’s an update! It’s also just easier in general to update via Twitter, so expect to see some tidbits there if you don’t see an entry here.

• Today Ian and I were watching an excellent children’s film called Kiki’s Delivery Service. It is the story of a very friendly witch, who has a cat that she can talk to, and how she comes of age. It’s a very charming movie, on the level of Disney animation. At any rate, we’ve seen this movie about 6 times with Ian at least, but this time in particular Kiki’s cat Gigi was cracking Ian up like crazy. I think it is the first time I’ve seen him really react to what’s on the tube instead of just staring at it blankly.

• It is with a small bit of sadness that I announce the retirement of bathtub duck. Ian has finally just gotten to be too big. Our little baby’s a boy! It happens so fast.

• During today’s Dada/Ian Monday, Ian found an old toy of his under the couch, and played with it a bit. Here’s some pics:

We had a lot of fun, but it was funny to see how large he is compared to this toy. See this image larger.

He used to kind of lay there in it staring up or down… now he can run around the house dragging it in tow. See this image larger.

• One final word, if you weren’t already handed a copy of Ian’s Greatest Hits Vol II & III you should be getting yours in the week(s) to come; production is finalized, covers and inserts printed, done, done, done. (I seem to have an extra “Volume III” disc… I might have just made a back-up, but let me know if yours is missing in the case… either scenario is pretty possible.)

The cover to II&III’s case uses this imagery… You’ll never know that my socks were stuffed into the hat to make it look full… unless I told you. 😉 See this image larger.

S’more Text

Well, I bombed you with images the last few days, here’s some stories!

• Ian and I have this game where we run around the couch that sits in the center of our living room. First we run around for awhile and he laughs, that’s pretty typical. Now I’ll switch direction and act like he scared me, scream “Ahhhh!” and turn around… well, he’s smart enough to know to turn around too! So we meet again shortly, again with the scream, and so on.

• Ian high-fives and waves with increasing frequency.

• We got our first incident report for Ian last week from his new daycare. Loosely, it said “Ian went face-first down the slide and ran into a toy truck.” He ended up with a bit of a black eye, but not much of one. On a related note: I bought a shirt for him, I think before he was even born… it’s still too big… but it says “I do all my own stunts.”

• I think as much of a Mama’s boy as Ian has been, we’ve had some serious bonding time lately because of Melissa’s work schedule. Things return back to normal shortly, and we’re all very grateful for that.

• Ian was sick again this week, but seemed to get over it pretty quick, thanks to a quick trip to the doctor and one of our best experiences with antibiotcs yet.

• Finally, one of the most bizarre experiences I’ve had with Ian yet… the ice cream truck goes by — and if you’ve visited us in the summer and heard it go by, you’ve heard precisely one song: Popeye the Sailor Man. Over and over again. At any rate… Ian heard the music, looked kind of bewildered for a second, and then, with caveman-like precision, he “bounced” in a hunched position, and began waggling his arms like he was repeatedly putting on an invisible coat. A slight smile, but mostly a look of focus was on his face… he was dancing! If I get this on video tape I’ll share it immediately, I promise.
