iPad2, an Unexpected Surprise
So by now, Ian’s on his third swimming class (May 12th) and he was still doing amazing. Sadly this was not to last, but we’ll get to that later.
Although I had my new iPad for about 4 or 5 days by the time May 13th showed up, I hadn’t really done much with the camera yet. And why would I, I’d heard that the cameras were mostly crap. And the people that said that were totally right. The camera itself does not take very good video. But. The viewfinder is as big as my whole head. Doesn’t sound like much of an advantage vs. excellent resolution, but when one of the cameras faces your kids, and your kids can see themselves in the viewfinder… well… suffice to say a great deal of fun has been had, and that while I do look forward to a better camera on whatever iPad comes next, let’s not worry about that at the moment, and just start off with the video.

Click here to see Nina using the iPad2 for video for the first time, with some help from Ian. This video is average-sized and hilariously awesome. Please do watch. (Listen for “Hello” “I see (her? I? me?)” and “She’s waving at the (camera? iPad?) See?” It may be hard to make this out… let me tell you that as of this writing, she’s become much easier to understand. You shall see!)

Click here to see Ian again following in his father’s footsteps. I’m betting Grandma Sue, in particular, recognizes the blank stare of a focused TV watcher of her own son, while watching her grandson in this video! Watch for Ian’s face when he explains that fire is what smoke “means.” I also like the way he says “Wake up them!” instead of “Wake them up!”)
May 16th, the kind of quality we get for images kind of stinks, like I said. See this image larger.
So don’t worry I’m only using the iPad2 for certain situations. See this image larger.
Like when there’s a cute shot, but I can’t get to another camera… Like this one on May 19th. See this image larger.
Nina grabbing a book. Her current favorite is “How Does a Dinosaur Eat All His Food.” She really enjoys it when we do a visual gesture on a page, and when she hands me a book, excitedly begins doing the gesture before we get to the page. I mentioned a duck book where she tilted her head to “sleep.” This is the same thing except she does sign-language for “please.” She’ll rub her belly for that. As of this writing (June 13th!) she added “thank you,” which looks similar to blowing a kiss. See this image larger.
I can’t believe how quickly Ian has been growing. See this image larger.
Still and always my little boy though! See this image larger.
