From Scratch
A slew of hand-crafted POI icons for use in the MMO’s map and the compass.
The very top row are photobashed from stock photography. (The far right one is made from a 2D image of photosynthesis!) The rest are all made by hand.
A system a colleague and I put together for Leaderboard Achievements.
We needed to produce a design that could cover the successful completion of a vast array of different deeds.
TOP: TOP: “Make all Soul Trials Assets.” The previously designed Trials and Season Trials icons were based on a rune shown above the entrances to those trials – this solution for “Soul” or “solo” trial icon is sand in the overall hourglass shape… resembling a Roman numeral one, (simultaneously driving home both “timed” and “solo”) but also “I” as a word.
BOTTOM: Non-faction “generic” influence icon. Competitive analysis, icon cross-interaction analysis, and finally playing around and sketching resulted in a sort of homage to an illumanti eyeball crossed with a plus-sign
In-Engine capture
The images above are all some variant of placing a three-dimensional in-engine model on a virtual stage – finding the most desirable pose to convey a specific result (such as an emote pose that best communicates its animation, or one that best shows off details of an armor set,) lighting it appropriately… and exporting that result over an appropriate background.
illustration/identity
New World’s Journal is one part quest tracker, one part tutorial, and also one part lore. I was humbled when a colleague and I were singled out to contribute to the latter’s illustrations. To see more of my work as an illustrator, see this page.
